Goals
To introduce the student to problem solving techniques in materials science
& engineering.
To demonstrate the common themes of property/structure relationships in materials.
Objectives of the Course
At the end of the course the student should be able to:
(1) Identify materials according to their classifications.
(2) Recognize and understand terminology associated with materials.
(3) Perform calculations for determination of density, strength, toughness,
creep, fatigue and grain size for all material classes. (4) Use phase diagrams
to determine the constitution of two-phase materials.
(5) Discuss and understand the role of structure on properties of materials.

Miscellaneous Notes Requests for grade adjustments, regardless of reason will

grade in question was returned to you. Once the deadline has passed, your grade
will stand as is. This request must be made directly to the course instructor
… no exceptions. Homework is due by 5:00PM of the date listed. Late homework
will receive a reduction in grade of ten percent of the total/day (at 5:00 PM
of the day in question) up to a maximum of 50 percent.
